Hank Kudzik served on the submarine USS Nautilus (SS-168, built in 1930). At the Battle of Mid Way, the Nautilus encountered several enemy ships, survived numerous depth charges, and assisted in sinking a wounded Japanese aircraft carrier. In the aftermath of Pearl Habor, Henry helped to remove the bodies of fallen soldiers and sailors for internment. Other significant duties include USS Gar SS-206 (6 War Patrols), Makin Island Raid, Bouganville, Papa New Guinea, Tarawa, Attu Island - the Aleutian Islands, and Philippine Liberation. Awards include Navy and Marine Commendation Medal, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and Philippine Liberation Medal.
